About the Project
The National Farmers Union represents over 46,000 farming and growing businesses across England and Wales. Their digital presence spans multiple websites and an internal intranet, all running on Umbraco.
The NFU needed to upgrade from Umbraco v8 to v13 across three public-facing websites and one intranet. The upgrade needed to be managed carefully across all four properties with minimal disruption to their members and staff.
What we did
We managed the Umbraco v8 to v13 upgrade across all four NFU properties. Each site was migrated individually, with content, functionality and integrations preserved throughout. The staggered approach meant the NFU team could validate each site before moving to the next, reducing risk and maintaining continuity for their users.
The Approach
Appcentric was appointed to lead the end-to-end upgrade of these platforms, ensuring all transitions were carefully managed and technically sound. Key steps included:
- Auditing the existing websites and intranet structures to assess risk and complexity
- Delivering a clean migration path to Umbraco 13 for each platform
- Maintaining design consistency while streamlining performance and usability
Coordinating with NFU teams across regions to support content workflows and internal training
The Outcome
All four NFU properties now run on a modern, supported version of Umbraco. The upgrade brought improved performance, security and long-term maintainability across the entire digital estate, ensuring the NFU's online presence is built on a platform that will continue to be supported for years to come.
