About the organisation
The International Association of Sedimentologists (IAS) is a global membership organisation that has been supporting student and professional geologists for over 60 years. It provides a platform for knowledge sharing, research collaboration, and professional development within the field of sedimentology.
The challenge
IAS needed a modern, user-friendly website and membership portal to better serve its diverse, global community. The existing system was outdated and lacked seamless integration with essential services such as academic resources and payment processing. The organisation required a solution that would improve the user experience for members, simplify subscription management, and provide easy access to online publications.
The approach
In 2023, IAS appointed Appcentric to design and develop a new website and membership portal. The project was built using Umbraco, a flexible content management system that allowed for custom integrations. The new platform was connected to Wiley’s online academic services, ensuring that members could easily access research materials. Additionally, Stripe was integrated to handle membership subscriptions and renewals, streamlining the payment process for both new and existing members.
The outcome
The new IAS website and membership portal provide a significantly improved experience for users. Members can now manage their subscriptions with ease, access academic resources more efficiently, and navigate a modern, responsive website. The integration with Wiley ensures that vital research materials remain easily available, while Stripe’s payment gateway simplifies renewals and new sign-ups. The project has helped IAS strengthen its digital presence and enhance the support it offers to the sedimentology community.
